Serging Project and Coming in 2015

I’ve been procrastinating on learning how to use my serger. No more! One of my goals for 2015 is to learn new things. It’s not yet the new year but I had a nice break in my sewing projects to clear off my desk and dive into the unknown.

A few months ago my mother-in-law found this unused old serger and gave it to me. It’s been in its box until this weekend. I decided to start with something easy and made rags for my hubby’s garage workshop. These were towels given to us by a neighbor and cut into sixths then serged around the edges.

Here are some things I’ve planned for QUILTArtbyMegan in the new year.

A spiffy new professional logo.
Tags! They’ll be sewn into quilts, place-mats, bags, tree skirts, and bibs. You know, stuff I make.
More tags! These ones are for custom orders. If it’s something special for someone special it’ll have the regular tag plus this one. 🙂
New business cards. My old ones are cute but… well…. they only have my etsy shop on them. It’s time to have contact information on cards I give out so people can contact me! The new ones have arrived and have my phone number, email address, and blog URL listed. Better.
Favorites Fridays. I’ll be blogging every (or most) Fridays about my favorite things: projects, inspiration, photographs, memories, tools, experiences and more.
Link-Ups. I’ll be hosting link-ups for the Favorites Fridays posts. I hope other bloggers will join in and write about their favorite things. I’ll have a link party every month in the beginning. Then as more people join in it may become bi-weekly or even weekly. For those who don’t know, a link-up is a place to collect blog posts on the same subject.

I’m so blessed to have friends who will brainstorm craft ideas with me. This time it was the snowflake mini-group who helped me out. Soooooo… in addition to offering the super-cool letter pillows, state pillows are making an appearance in my etsy shop.

Founding snowflake, Trisha, ordered the first one so I could use it as a sample. She got a 16×16 inch square pillow cover. The crumb block is reverse-appliqued and in the shape of Wisconsin. Can you see the little heart? That’s over the city of her choice. I also hand-embroidered the word “Wisconsin” on it. Cool, huh?

Here’s a close-up of that heart button. It’s sewn onto a yo-yo and is a little shiny so that it pops out and can be seen against those crumb fabrics.

Trisha didn’t need it, but I also sell the pillow forms. Order from me and it’ll save you a trip to the craft store.

You can have these be as simple or complex as you want. Just the state? Order that. The other options are add-ons for a few more dollars. What about getting a letter “J” pillow embroidered with Jaime’s name? I do custom orders! What’s your idea? Maybe a football with your team written on it, or a heart that says, “Will you marry me?”

Welcome to 2014! It’s time for a sample sale. These quilts have been all over the place (even if just all over the internet) and it’s time for some fresh art to show for the new year. First up is, “Big Megan.” Not because I’m big, but because the next one is little Megan. I like these words better than child and young adult. This piece is quilted and measures 13″ x 15.5″ and is valued at $85.45. Which means it’s now on sale for $42.73. Buy it here.

Last on the list of sample quilts is one that I’m keeping. I call it “Four Faces” and has sentimental value to me. Plus it’s quite a bit larger than the ones I’m selling so it could make a nice impression hanging in a craft booth in the near future. Here’s what this one looks like:

Expect a blog post next week about the quilts that a team of us are making for Crystal Lake Camps, where I spent many of my childhood summers. It’s a place that I hold dear to my heart and I’m honored to be coordinating three quilts for the Lodge. There’s a native american theme at the camp, so everyone’s divided into four clans: the turtles, turkeys, bears, and wolves. I’m in charge of organizing the two twin sized quilts for the turkeys room and one larger quilt for the turtles room. I also have the permission of the maker of quilts for the other two clans to show photographs of her stunning creations here.

In case you’re wondering, I’m a proud turtle. GO TURTLES!
